QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • What determines the torque rating on these hoist rings, and can I use blue loctite on the bolt threads?

The torque is much lower than what you’d find on lug nuts, automotive, and industrial bolt applications, but the purpose of torquing these swivel hoist rings is different than other applications. Proper torque on hoist rings is intended to:
-Provide a moderate level of loosening resistance without putting undue strain / pre-loading on the bolt.
-Ensure the bolt is tightened to a level that exceeds the swiveling forces the hoist ring may endure to prevent loosening during use.
-Ensure the base of the hoist ring is in full contact with the surface it is mounting to.
If the bolt is over torqued, it will be pre-loaded, and could over-stress the bolt over time from fatigue, or fail prematurely if the WLL of the hoist ring is ever exceeded.
If the bolt is under tightened it may loosen during use.
Regarding the use of thread locker, yes, you can use thread locker if your application will experience vibration and you are concerned that the bolt may loosen over time.
The torque value is a recommended value and should be measured with a torque wrench. Hex wrenches and hex sockets can also be used, but never an impact wrench.
We and all hoist ring manufacturers always recommend checking torque before use.

  • Are these Swivel Hoist rings approved for side pulling from 0-20 degrees?

    • 5:1 Design Factor and 100% load rated throughout 360° swivel and 180° pivot.

  • Can the bolts be swapped out for longer ones?

    • The ASTM A574 socket head cap screws are not permanently installed, but we recommend you maintain the original bolt in the LFT assembly. There are special cuts on our bolt designed to retain the bolt in the assembly when not fastened to a surface. The LFT Hoist Ring assembly is designed, tested, and rated with the original bolts. If different bolts are used, the hoist ring assembly will not maintain the load rating specified on the hoist ring. Please read and understand all the hoist ring warnings and instructions here, and keep all the original components together.

We are currently developing versions of these hoist rings with longer bolts that can utilize nuts and washers.
