Nearly all general-purpose fiber ropes are produced overseas in China, India, and Southeast Asia. These ropes include 3-stranded nylon, polyester, polypropylene, and manila. Also included are double braided ropes made from polyester and nylon.
Hundreds of sea containers of these ropes are brought into the U.S. by importers from the various producers around the world. Typically, the importer specifies the exact color, weight by length, and fiber content. What this has led to over the years is inconsistency of quality. In the past, the rope products we offered on our E-Rigging website were these inconsistent quality products and our customers let us know about it when they received a substandard product.
Sea-Strand was created so we could consistently offer a quality product on a consistent basis. We set out to create value in the brand through trust. We do this by developing a strong relationship with our suppliers and traveling around the world to see their facilities and develop specifications the adhere to Cordage Institute standards.
