QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • Could I bend n install a thimble on a 3/16 1x19 type 316 cable, or best to install on strait terminals.

    The 1x19 cable is best used with straight terminals.  You will not be able to bend this around a thimble.

  • I’m interested in installing 3/16” 316 cable railing on my exterior porch. Can I span the 10’ from post to post using your 3/16 straight end stops without sagging? What’s the recommended span using these components?

    4’ is national and international code; however, we generally recommend no more than 6’ if you want an easy time tensioning the cable.  It is also recommended to only use one straight end stop per cable run.  You should have at least one tensioning assembly (turnbuckle) on each run.  If you do plan to space your posts that far, I would suggest using 2 tensioner assemblies, one on each side of the cable and no end stop assembly. 

  • I am redoing railing on a deck. The deck has 6” end post 27’ from outside to outside. Two intermediate post equally spaced. Can I do the 27’ in one run or will I need to do shorter runs? Will I need more intermediate posts?

    It is generally recommended to have 4' spacing on your posts that support your cable.  You should be able to do that in one run, but if you leave the spacing at 9', you may need to use a tensioning assembly on either side of the cable to get it tight enough.
